The body of Falcon Watahomizzy, 43, was discovered in early July after he reportedly took his own life. This happened despite not being placed on any suicide watch by the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities became concerned when he failed to respond to phone calls on July 2.
Detention officers tried to reach out to Watahomizzy around 7:50 AM, but there was no answer. Eventually, they checked on him and found him unresponsive, with his jumpsuit tied around his neck and lying on his side. Officers began CPR, and medical assistance was summoned, but Watahomizzy was pronounced dead at 8:21 AM.
He had been taken into custody by the Arizona Department of Public Safety just the day before, on July 1, due to a misdemeanor warrant related to a domestic violence incident. His bail was set at $2,100. After being photographed and fingerprinted, he was left alone in a cell, where he was later found deceased.
Notably, he had not been put on suicide surveillance prior to his passing. An investigation is currently ongoing, but officials have indicated no signs of foul play. “It appears he died of obvious suicide,” a news release from the sheriff’s office stated.

Recent Deaths in Arizona Prisons
This incident isn’t isolated; three years ago, a 36-year-old man named Clayton James Thornberg also took his life at the same facility. According to the Arizona Department of Amendment, Rehabilitation and Re-entry Bureau, five inmates committed suicide within a span of just 23 days from December 2023 to January 2024.
