The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is one of America’s greatest organizations ever founded. Today’s leaders stand on the shoulders of former giants such as W.E.B. Du Bois, Ida B. Wells, Mary McLeod Bethune and Thurgood Marshall.

So it doesn’t make me happy to say that this once venerable, prestige, and courageous group is now declining as the Democratic Party’s advocate. Its unserious activities today are primarily useful for raising the already high social and economic status of upper-class virtue signalers of all races and colors. Generous funders need and can find better places to put their resources.

In a warning, the group said black Americans must “understand that Florida devalues ​​and marginalizes the contributions of African Americans and the challenges they face.” are doing. So why would an organization set up to advance so many black Americans spread such harmful disinformation? One word: politics.

The NAACP has become a progressive, elite branch of the Democratic political machine, frustrated with a nation that has functioned so well under the leadership of the highly popular Republican Party. And the recent announcement of President DeSantis seems to be trying to tarnish that reputation to prevent it from being elevated into the public consciousness.

We could forgive the NAACP’s partisanship if it also made recommendations about really bad places for black people to visit or live. In places like Chicago, for example, black people are more likely to be shot than almost anywhere else in the country. Or Baltimore—where the NAACP has maintained its headquarters all my life—where there are overwhelming numbers of people. Black children cannot read or do simple arithmetic. But no, it will piss off our friends in the Democratic Party who razed those places to the ground.

Or, if the NAACP really focuses on the “challenges facing African Americans” that it denigrates as devaluing Florida, then look to clarify partisanship. Some people will suffocate. The challenges we know include disproportionately poverty, maintaining nuclear families, and educational opportunities for children. Instead, it focuses on radical ideological issues such as climate change, superficial diversity, and other identity-political measures. primarily benefit the wealthy.
