DHS Seems to Take Down Deportation Video After Pushback From Well-Known Comedian

DHS Removes Comedian Theo Von’s Video After Controversy

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) took down a video featuring comedian Theo Von from his X account on Wednesday. This action followed some discontent after the video was covered in a news article.

The promotional clip aimed at supporting DHS and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was criticized by Von, who indicated he had not consented to its use. He expressed his dissatisfaction, stating he wanted the DHS to “remove” him from the post.

“I did not approve of using this,” Von said in a post late Tuesday. He elaborated further, mentioning that his views on immigration are more complex than what the video suggested.

Previously, the video showcased various images related to immigration enforcement, including a message about “2 million people in 250 days,” coupled with comments from Trump at the United Nations. It concluded with an airplane taking off, captioned with “rest now.”

In a subsequent tweet, he voiced his frustration about the situation, saying, “I’m surprised they think this is acceptable. What if something happens to me?”

Von’s use of the term “banger”—to characterize DHS videos—indicated a growing unease regarding the department’s content strategy in recent weeks.

On Monday, DHS had released another video on X, which showed ICE agents apprehending illegal immigrants alongside a character from Nintendo’s Pokémon series, Ash Ketchum, with the tag “Catch ‘Em All.” This was paired with a series of playful “trading cards” featuring illegal immigrants.

Images also surfaced demonstrating a historic theme related to American identity, one depicting pivotal moments in U.S. history, and another showcasing natural landscapes along with a thematic song.

As of now, both DHS and Theo Von’s teams have not provided any commentary regarding the incident.
