“After the end of World War II, someone asked Winston Churchill. “How do you think history will treat you?” he said, “I’d know that. We saw it happen and saw the Soviet Union go through periodic revisions of history,” Durbin said. “If there’s an event that they probably didn’t want to report on, that’s the case. I’m afraid that’s going on about the January 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol.”
“You are here today in safety and peace, because men and women in uniform risk the lives of this moment for you and me,” he continued. “From January 6th to 140, of these unified men and women protecting this Capitol, they were mercilessly beaten by the mob, some of which died afterwards. That’s true. And the facts should also be realistic.”
Capitol police officer Brian Sicknick passed away on January 7th after engaging in a mob that entered the building, but a Washington, D.C. Chief inspector found him suffered from two strokes and died of natural causes. Capitol police officers Jeffrey Smith and Howard Levengood have committed suicide A few days after the riot.
“What is wrong with anyone who wants to characterize that event on January 6th as “a riot used to launch a war by mistake”? ” asked Durbin.
Durbin was referring to Wiegerten article With a federalist entitled “Trump’s J6 Amnesty Signs the End of War with False Thoughts.” On January 20, Trump signed an executive order that would grant an estimated 1,500 protesters a full pardon on January 6th.
“The same person who used the term ‘wrong’ went on to say, “Law enforcement resources are suitable for not treating grandmas who wander around Capitol grounds like jihadists,” Durbin said.
The senator details the worst example of the January 6 protestor, ironically calling him “grandma.”
“So, will we rewrite history now? This is Grandma on a tour of Capitol on January 6th. Like hell. I was there. And we were there too,” he said. “Men and women who risked their lives for me, and I owe a debt of gratitude that I can’t even express at this point. It’s rewriting history. It’s a corruption of speech. We shouldn’t let it happen.”
