Discover Alabama’s beautiful roads and secret finds during the World’s Longest Yard Sale

The World’s Longest Yard Sale Returns

From August 7-10, bargain hunters can enjoy the scenic backroads of Alabama and surrounding states during the world’s longest yard sale. Known as the 127-yard sale, this extensive shopping event stretches 690 miles, starting from Gadsden, Alabama and reaching all the way to Addison, Michigan.

The route in Alabama begins in Gadsden and meanders along the beautiful Mountain Parkway, passing through Fort Payne before entering Chattanooga, Tennessee. From there, shoppers can follow Highway 127 into Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan. The purpose of this event is to lure travelers off the interstate, encouraging them to explore charming small towns and rural communities along less traveled roads.

Throughout the four-day event, numerous vendors set up along the roadside, offering a diverse range of products. Attendees can expect to find antiques, collectibles, furniture, tableware, fresh produce, and homemade jams. The atmosphere is often lively, thanks to food vendors and live entertainment available along the route.

A notable part of the journey is a 93-mile stretch on the Lookout Mountain Parkway in Alabama, which has been featured in publications like Reader’s Digest, National Geographic, and Life in the South as a must-visit area. This route offers breathtaking views, including waterfalls and canyons, alongside small towns and natural sites like state and national parks.

Most vendors open their stalls around 8 AM and stay operational until the evening. While some may accept credit cards, cash is generally preferred. It’s advisable for shoppers to wear comfortable footwear, bring insect repellent and sunscreen, and pack snacks and plenty of water for their journey.

For those planning to attend, you can visit 127yardsale.com for detailed directions through Alabama and a list of vendor clusters featuring at least 25 sellers each.
