Disney Allegedly Canceled Jimmy Kimmel After He Aimed To Stand By His Remarks About Charlie Kirk’s Assassination

Jimmy Kimmel’s Show Shelved Amid Controversy

Disney executives have reportedly put Jimmy Kimmel’s show on hold after he made controversial remarks regarding the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Kimmel’s comments, made during a monologue on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” drew significant backlash from conservatives.

In his Monday night segment, Kimmel mentioned a figure named Tyler Robinson, who he implied was linked to Kirk’s death, also mocking President Donald Trump’s response to the situation. Concerns from Disney CEO Bob Iger and Disney Entertainment co-chair Dana Walden over a planned follow-up monologue on Wednesday led to the decision to suspend the show indefinitely.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Kimmel seemed poised to intentionally provoke conservative interpretations of his earlier words and also intended to address concerns raised by Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Kerr about his comments. Kerr had warned that inappropriate remarks could lead to potential repercussions for ABC-related networks.

This presents a considerable challenge for Disney, as they contemplate how to navigate the issue with Kimmel. Some executives have discussed potential actions in response to the ongoing controversy.

During the contentious monologue, Kimmel accused conservative figures of misrepresenting the actions of Robinson, who he called politically motivated in his actions against Kirk. Kimmel likened the emotional response to Kirk’s death to that of a “four-year-old child lamenting a goldfish,” spurring further outrage.

Despite the tumult, Kimmel expressed no intention of retracting his statements. Sources from the Hollywood Reporter indicated that conversations between Walden and Kimmel aimed to find a way to diffuse the situation, although there were concerns about the reaction from Kimmel’s fan base, particularly among MAGA supporters.

The decision to pause Kimmel’s show came swiftly, with Nexstar Media Group initially announcing it due to the “offensive and insensitive” remarks. ABC quickly followed suit, publicly stating their stance.

Liberal commentators and Democrats have voiced their frustration over the cancellation, framing it as an infringement on free speech. Representative Eric Swalwell, a Democrat from California, suggested during a segment on “CNN News Central” that the move was a direct response to Trump’s influence over the network.
