The politically correct characters accompanying Snow White, played by Hispanic actress Rachel Zegler, were photographed walking behind the princess in Bedfordshire, England during filming. They wore bright colors and ran across the grass. (Related: Disney appears to abandon second lawsuit over ongoing DeSantis feud)
The modern version of the film also does not feature Prince Charming saving Snow White. The revised story will focus on an empowered princess who follows her dream of becoming a leader.
There was a violent backlash against the changes revealed in the 1937 remake of the film.
“Snow White and the Seven Diverse Adopters,” wrote one Twitter user, mocking the film.
Another Twitter user wrote, “#GoWokeGoBroke.”
Actor Peter Dinklage, who has a dwarfism called achondroplasia, will play Latino in the January 2022 remake before it’s revealed that the seven dwarfs will instead be “magical creatures.” Despite the female lead, the film was criticized for its problematic portrayal of disability. According to NPR.
“Let’s step back and see what I’m doing there. It makes no sense to me,” Dinklage said on the WTF With Marc Maron podcast. “You’re progressive in a way, but what the hell are you doing when you’re still making a fucking backwards story about seven dwarves living together in a cave?”
“Snow White” will be released in theaters on March 22, 2024.
