Re: June 13 article “Private racetrack wins $12 million”.
As a former animal cruelty investigator and caretaker of many horses over the last few decades, I read the Arizona Daily Star’s May 7 article, “Behind a Horse’s Death, the Party Continues.” I read it with sorrow.
That particular article was about the Kentucky Derby, but may refer to the situation at Tucson’s Lilliet Park racetrack.
Fatal accidents continue despite alleged “safety measures” taken by race officials.
To be clear, horses used in the racing industry do not participate voluntarily. Their lives are filled with confinement, fear, pain, and life-threatening injuries. And most of them end up in the slaughterhouse.
Others are reading…
Lilyt Park Racetrack is on public/county property and is subsidized by the taxpayer’s tax. The contract renewal will be voted on Tuesday morning, June 20.
Call the Pima County Supervisory Commission Chairperson/Primary Phone Number (520-724-8126) now and tell them to vote against this contract renewal.
