In other words, the much-feared dock strike was over before panic could really begin. Has this crisis been averted or is it pure political maneuvering?
Well, probably the latter.
The longshoremen’s union, the International Longshoremen’s Association, has reached a temporary agreement with employers for a 62% pay increase. But all other issues will be put on the back burner until master contract negotiations resume in January. In the meantime, they will be returning to work. How convenient…
Longshoremen are on strike in Port Newark, New Jersey on October 1, 2024. Despite last-minute talks, officials at 14 ports along the eastern U.S. and Gulf Coast announced last-minute moves on Sept. 30 to prepare for a labor strike that could hurt the U.S. economy ahead of the presidential election. A once-in-a-generation strike that could have devastated the national economy was averted just weeks before the unpopular ruling party faces a close election. If the shelves are empty and the Amazon packages stop coming a week before the election, you can bet which party the average middle-class Jane and Joe will vote for.
Fortunately for Democrats, the unions solved it in the nick of time. President Joe Biden, as if he were just an outside observer, called the agreement “a significant step toward a strong contract.” But let’s be real. An army of Democratic operatives has been working behind the scenes all week to circumvent this bubble. political crisis.
As much as the Democrats pretend that they are putting gamesmanship above all else, some kind of Kuopro It almost certainly happened. Call off the strike and get back to work. I will definitely take care of you when I return to the White House.
The ILA is betting that Democrats will stick to the deal, but there is a good chance they will live to regret this decision. The Democratic Party has no interest in protecting the interests of the white working class majority. In fact, they imagine them as a dying race that can’t disappear fast enough.
The ILA will never have more influence than it currently has. Apparently they’ve already run out of it.
