DOJ personnel to monitor elections in 5 Arizona counties

Phoenix (3TV/CBS 5) -Federal election observers will be deployed to various polling places in five Arizona counties beginning Tuesday to monitor compliance with federal voting rights laws, the Justice Department announced Monday.

Officials said officials from the DOJ’s Office for Civil Rights and the U.S. Attorney’s Office will be deployed to Maricopa, Navajo, Pima, Pinal, and Yavapai counties beginning Tuesday’s election day to monitor voter intimidation and voter suppression. Department officials are urging voters to report disturbances at polling places immediately to local election officials, including those at the polling place.
