DOJ Reportedly Opens Investigation Into NYC Migrant Shelters

According to multiple outlets, the Department of Justice (DOJ) reportedly launched a criminal investigation into a New York City hotel operating as an immigration shelter on Wednesday.

Prosecutors are requesting testimony and evidence related to immigration shelter programs on unspecified “violations” of federal immigration laws. According to The Times, prosecutors also requested a complete list of immigrants currently living in the hotel, including nationality, date of birth and number of identifications.

As shelters were built and schools and hotels were converted to accommodate the influx, the city spent $1.47 billion in asylum seeker shelters and services in fiscal 2023 and $3.75 billion in fiscal 2024. According to the Times, federal prosecutors requested that the hotel provide the name of the person responsible for “funding and management of the Illegal Immigration/Immigration Shelter Program,” and requested a potential contract or contract for a potential contract or contract associated with the program.

The DOJ move comes after the NYC Roosevelt Hotel, which was used as a shelter for illegal immigrants, began closure of its asylum arrivals centre and humanitarian emergency response and relief centres on February 24.

“Our city received 4,000 immigrants every week during the crisis, and now it’s falling to around 350 new arrivals each week,” Adams said.

Since President Donald Trump took office, his second administration has put in great effort to protect the illegal immigration crisis as millions have entered the United States under the Biden-Harris administration. The Trump administration, led by Tom Homan of the border and Christa Noem’s Department of Homeland Security, has made more than 30,000 US immigrants and customs enforcement arrests.

DOJ did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
