Doug Collins Says Dems’ Fearmongering Over VA Harms Veterans

Doug Collins, the VA secretary, criticised Democrats for Fox Business for what he said was afraid that what he said would ultimately hurt veterans.

The VA plans to cut more than 80,000 jobs to comply with President Donald Trump’s orders to reduce the federal workforce, as revealed in a leaked internal memo. When he appeared in “The Evening Edit,” Collins criticized Democrats for portraying the VA system, and he said he unnecessarily scares veterans and VA staff.

“I’m tired of sitting with senators and congressmen who scare veterans and scare employees. No one cares about asking them. Why does that happen?” Because over the past decade, GAO actually says VA Healthcare has been on the high-risk list and is prone to fraud, waste, abuse and low-quality care,” Collins said. “Ten years later, every committee that the Hill Committee did was actually add money and add people.

Collins then cited an instance involving Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer.

clock:

“In that part, Senator Schumer made my point completely. That’s what we have here at VA. We actually look at contracts, look at HR and get more efficient here at VA. He said if you don’t care that it’s in the program and it needs to be cut,” Collins told host Elizabeth McDonald. “If we’re not caring for veterans in our care and benefits, we don’t need it in the VA. We need to redirect our funds to where we need them.”

McDonald then mentioned the layoffs. Collins said the position affected by the layoffs is “non-directed” and is not important to direct patient care or disability benefits.

“The numbers are fired from a probation perspective or half of 1% of salary. It’s half of the 1%, and they all faced unmotivated, not essential to our patient care or benefits or disability allocation,” Collins said. Collins also discussed judicial rulings requiring these probation employees to be rehired.

“We’re just starting to do what the judges are ruling. I’m sure there will be more legal consequences, charm, etc. out there, and we’re just going to move forward. But I’ll say this, we need to make sure the veteran is focused on doing what it takes to make sure they get back to the beginning in the VA,” Collins said.

Collins in early February I said Doge representatives are working to reduce waste without affecting the interests of veterans. VA faces criticism of long waiting times and poor quality care, and its claims Unsatisfied It will increase from below 100,000 before 2019 to above 250,000 in 2025.
