Doug Emhoff Acknowledges Affair After Report Alleges He Got Nanny Pregnant

Second gentleman Doug Emhoff admitted on Saturday to having an affair in his first marriage after the Daily Mail reported that he had impregnated the nanny, CNN reported.

Emhoff admitted to having an affair while he was married to his first wife, Kirsten. CNNHowever, he did not specifically mention who the lover was. Alleged Emhoff allegedly slept with a teacher at his then-toddler daughter's school, who also worked as a nanny for the family, and the relationship led to a pregnancy.

“Kirsten and I went through difficult times because of my actions during my first marriage,” Emhoff said in a statement to CNN. “I took responsibility for it, and in the years since then, our family has overcome challenges and emerged stronger.” (Related: Kamala's Jewish husband's daughter raises nearly $8 million for Gaza)

Emhoff's statement also did not clarify whether the relationship resulted in a pregnancy.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Emhoff was allegedly sleeping with a teacher at The Willows, an exclusive private school in California where Emhoff's daughter Ella was attending at the time.

The article further stated that Kirsten Emhoff ended her 16-year marriage to Emhoff after discovering his affair in 2009. In 2014, Emhoff and Vice President Kamala Harris, who was then serving as California's Attorney General, married.

CNN, citing anonymous sources, reported that the affair was known about when President Joe Biden's search team was in the process of selecting a running mate for the 2020 election cycle. The same sources told the outlet that Emhoff told Harris about the affair well before they got married.

Emhoff also knew the affair could eventually become public, according to CNN, again citing anonymous sources familiar with the matter.
