One of the South's most popular drinks has made it onto the list of the largest soda brands in the U.S., according to a report from an industry publication. Beverage Digest.
While Coca-Cola still holds (and likely will hold) the number one spot, Dr Pepper has overtaken Pepsi's market share as the second most popular carbonated drink in the US.
Dr Pepper has been around for a long time, longer than Coca-Cola or Pepsi, having been on store shelves since 1885. Dr Pepper boasts 23 different flavors, and while Pepsi has been on the decline, Dr Pepper has been on the rise over the years.
According to Beverage Digest, Pepsi's soft drink selection still outsells Dr Pepper's, but excluding diet drinks, the two are roughly equal in total sales.
However, Coca-Cola still boasts more than double the market share of the second-placed beverage.
