Dr. Will Boyd Joins 2026 Governor’s Race
Dr. Will Boyd, a multifaceted individual who has experience in engineering, business, and ministry, is stepping into the political arena as a Democratic candidate for the 2026 Governor’s Race.
Currently, he splits his time between Florence and Hoover. Originally from South Carolina, Boyd’s career began in manufacturing management, which took him both domestically and internationally.
His academic background is impressive; he holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of South Carolina, an MBA from Regis University, and a doctorate in religion, psychology, and organizational management. Boyd has served in various educational and administrative roles in higher education, including positions as Prime Minister of St. James’s Elders College and Dean of Student Success at Greenville College.
In addition to his educational roles, Boyd has contributed to literature in areas related to leadership and faith, authoring three books. Currently, he is the bishop of the ministry of Zion and heads the Baptist Church of the Missionary St. Mark in Florence. He also carries the title of International Patriarch of the St. Catholic Church.
Boyd’s public service background includes being elected to the Greenville, Illinois City Council, where he served from 2009 to 2011. He also ran for the Democratic nomination for Alabama’s 5th Congressional District in 2016, attempted to secure the lieutenant governor position in 2018, and sought a seat in the US Senate in 2022.
Moreover, he has been active on boards for the Health Care Department in Lauderdale County and Florence City.
His campaign centers around six key priorities: advancing economic development, ensuring education equity, improving healthcare access, promoting employee representation, protecting the environment, and fighting against voter suppression. Boyd characterizes his leadership philosophy as being grounded in values like fairness and freedom. He is passionate about the belief that every American deserves the chance for upward mobility.
The Alabama primary is set for May 19, 2026, with the general election to follow on November 3rd.
