Driver killed in Sunday night crash in Maricopa

MARICOPA, Arizona — A 25-year-old man was killed Sunday night after being thrown from a car in Maricopa, police said.

The deceased man was involved in a reported three-vehicle crash near Honeycut Road and Gunsmoke Road around 8:30 pm.

Maricopa police said the 25-year-old man and another driver were suspected of speeding when one of them lost control and crashed into another car. This caused a secondary collision with another vehicle.

The other two drivers managed to get out of the vehicle. One of them suffered minor injuries, police said.

Authorities have detained one of the surviving drivers on suspicion of criminal charges.

The 25-year-old man who died has not been identified.
