Yuma, Arizona (AZ Family) — Mexican police believe they have thwarted the construction of a new drug tunnel into Arizona.
The tunnel entrance is located in San Luis, Rio Colorado, south of Yuma, across the U.S.-Mexico border.

The tunnel was discovered during a U.S. Customs and Border Protection operation, according to the post. They were able to use a drone to discover a tunnel just south of the border wall.
According to Mexican authorities, the tunnel is in its infancy and is believed to be a “drug tunnel” possibly used to smuggle drugs and people into the United States through the border wall.
According to the DEA’s 2024 Drug Threat Assessment, the Sinaloa drug cartel uses such tunnels in the Southwest.
Some are very sophisticated structures with electricity and ventilation.
Mexican authorities say this is the third tunnel discovered near the Yuma area this year.
The Yuma Border Patrol, which works closely with Mexican authorities to combat border crime, said it had no information about this particular tunnel.
