The family alleged the man “scared” the girl with inappropriate physical contact, “obscene gestures” and requests for personal information, the report said.
The New York Post reported that a flight attendant told her mother to “please be patient” and staff responded to her indifference and attempts to reach out for help. (Related article: Woman feels relieved after receiving report of two-hour delay on Spirit Airlines flight)
Instead of being reassigned, the man was instructed to ‘stop talking’ to the mother and daughter, according to the media, after a drunken passenger unleashed a blasphemous outburst.
The situation escalated further after the girl allegedly had a panic attack and took refuge in her mother’s lap, the newspaper said. But the man’s unwelcome advances continued, and she allegedly reached under the girl’s shirt and “touched the straps of her bra,” according to a lawsuit filed by her family.
Despite the seriousness of the incident, the family’s request to contact law enforcement upon landing was denied, with flight attendants urging them to “calm down and think,” the paper reported.
“What happened to them during the flight was not just a nightmare, it was completely avoidable,” said Evan Bulstein, the family’s attorney, according to court documents.
In the aftermath, the paper said Delta had reportedly offered 5,000 free air miles.
The lawsuit currently being filed against the airline seeks $2 million in damages for the pain and trauma suffered by the family, according to the Times.
