‘Dumbest Thing I’ve Ever Heard’: James Carville Denies Dems ‘Feel Disenfranchised’ By Harris Becoming De Facto Nominee

Democratic strategist James Carville said Thursday it was unreasonable to suggest Democrats “feel disenfranchised” by the process that selected Vice President Harris as the party's presumptive nominee.

After President Joe Biden dropped out of the race on Sunday, Harris has garnered enough verbal support from delegates to become the party's presumptive nominee.Around the World with Raymond Arroyo“Virtually no voters are upset about the process that has enabled Harris to become the de facto nominee,” he argued. “Name me one disgruntled voter in the Democratic primary … Raymond, this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard,” Carville told host Raymond Arroyo. “You'd think that some Democrat would say, 'Oh, I feel like my voice isn't being heard. I voted for President Biden in the Indiana primary, and now I'm going to vote for Vice President Harris.' What a joke.”

“I know more Democratic donors than anybody, and there's been a total boycott by donors. They can't count the money coming in,” he added. “They had 808,000 new donations, 60 percent were first-time donors. People are coming out, my friend Reed Hastings said $7.5 million. So if there's one donor who feels left out, so what? Who cares? I've never seen or heard a Democrat say, 'I feel disrespected and disenfranchised.' Nobody.”

Arroyo brought up how Black Lives Matter pressured the Democratic National Committee to organize a nationwide virtual primary after Harris secured enough delegates, suggesting that the process was undemocratic.

“Who said BLM is a major part of the Democratic Party? I've been a Democrat my whole life. How many BLM delegates do you have? Republicans believe in a myth of who Democrats are,” Carville said. “And you all want to live in your own myth world. I can't take you out of it. You've been there a long time. But I can assure you that no Democrat feels disenfranchised by this. You might be able to find one donor or individual, but 98% are totally in favor.”

Carville wrote in The New York Times on July 8. Editorial He said Democrats want to hold four town hall meetings across the country before the August convention to help select a nominee, and he wants former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton to play key roles.Democratic strategists acknowledged at the start of the episode with President Arroyo that they had wanted a “more open process” than the way Harris became the de facto nominee.

During an MSNBC segment airing Thursday, progressive voters in Wisconsin expressed frustration with the process that led to Harris becoming the provisional candidate, but maintained they still intended to vote for her in November's election.

“I think they were trying to clear out the candidates so that Biden would win and prevent a real democratic primary from taking place. I'm not saying Kamala Harris would lose, but if he had realized this earlier, we would have had more time for intraparty debate and intraparty democracy and I think we would have benefited greatly,” said a male voter.
