Eastbound I-10 reopens at New Mexico state line; westbound lanes remain closed

ADOT said Interstate 10 reopened at the New Mexico border after violent clashes outside Wilcox on Wednesday.

I-10 westbound is currently closed at Milepost 344, the Haskell Road exit.

Westbound traffic from Wilcox to Benson is still closed.

Westbound I-10 in southeastern Arizona is expected to take up to 48 hours to reopen.

At approximately 12:03 a.m., a trailer veered off the right side of the road, hit a guardrail, and struck an overpass, according to ADOT.

The trailer was burned to the ground and a bridge pillar collapsed.

According to ADOT, the crash did not involve any hazardous materials.

The driver was confirmed dead.

The driver and carrier have not yet been identified.

New photos show damage from a severe crash on I-10 outside Willcox.

ADOT shared a photo Wednesday morning showing one of the underpass pillars buckling and charred after a semi-truck crashed into the underpass and burst into flames.

Interstate 10 is currently closed at the New Mexico border. Drivers are being asked to exit the interstate and take State Route 80 through Douglas and Bisbee as an alternative route.

Interstate 10 is closed in both directions west of Wilcox Wednesday morning after a semi-tractor struck a bridge.

According to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, it happened shortly after midnight near Milepost 331 at the interchange with U.S. 191 South.

Drivers are directed to exit the interstate by detours on MP 331 Eastbound or MP 344 Westbound.

There are currently no plans to reopen the highway.

Update: 7:00 AM
ADOT offers an alternate route from New Mexico traveling southwest toward the border and back to Benson via Bisbee and Tombstone.
