Yuma, Arizona — After finishing second in the standings to Western Arizona, the EAC volleyball team had to make the long trip to Yuma for the Region 1 championship game. The AWC won the regular season series with him 2-1 and most recently he won the season finale five days ago. The Easterns were able to sweep the Matadors he 3-0 to win the Region 1 title.
“I’m very proud of how they played last night,” said EAC head coach Shari Kaye. “Going into the match, I was pretty confident about where we were sitting.rd time. His two losses suffered in the AWC were by “United States”.
The EAC dominated the first two sets, winning 25-14 and 25-16. The Matador held the final set by a close margin, but a monster block made the difference in the closing stages and he won the third set 25-22.
“We worked really hard to fix some things and the girls made the adjustments they needed. I got it,” said coach Kay. “We played clean volleyball and he played solid three sets,” Kay added.
East Arizona (21-10) heads to Texas for the Southwest 5B Championship game on November 8th. But they still don’t know who is where. The Region 5 North Tournament is currently underway and a champion will be determined on Saturday afternoon. The top three seeds in the tournament are Weatherford College, North Central Texas College and Hill College.
Eastern’s Steliyana Chakarova (Bulgaria) was named Region 1 Championship MVP.
Eastern Arizona also had several players named to All-ACCAC and All-Region teams.
