Founded in 1937 by Spencer Penrose and Julie Penrose, the El Pommard Foundation has an established legacy of general-purpose grant making. The competitive process continues to be the Foundation’s primary means by which organizations receive funding.
In addition, over the past 85 years, El Pomar has developed or has been entrusted with the administration of many other funds, or has provided merit grants in each region nominated by its Trustees and members of the Regional Councils. Competing applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
The Regional Partnerships Program was established in 2003 in an effort to increase our influence and establish connections across the state. Each of the Foundation’s 11 Regional Councils advises the El Pomar Management Committee and recommends grants to support the local community.
The Northeast Regional Council recommends grants in Cheyenne, Kit Carson, Lincoln, Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington, and Yuma counties. Council members are local business, nonprofit, and public sector leaders who provide first-hand information on the current needs of their respective communities.
The Frida Hambrick Foundation supports nonprofit organizations in Colorado that prevent animal cruelty, provide direct care and medical assistance, and provide educational programs for proper animal care and attention.
