Since the beginning of January, when the application for ACT became available, almost 37,000 public school students and families in home education programs have signed up, gaining access to fundraising opportunities.
According to Governor Kay Ivey, the Educational Savings Account (ESA) created by The Choose Act is now fully funded for use during the 2025-2026 school year.
“Our Choice Law Education Savings Account is designed to benefit many Alabama families and students with distinct educational requirements,” she commented. “In its first year, the state’s ESA program has gained notable popularity, providing chances, flexibility, and choices regarding education for our kids. We’re thrilled to have this year’s program active.”
Related: ACT selection has approved nearly 24,000 students, most of whom are already enrolled in private or homeschool settings.
For the 2025-2026 academic year, families can receive up to $7,000 per child for private school and up to $2,000 per child (with a maximum of $4,000 per family) for homeschooling.
Currently, eligibility for Choose ACT is restricted to households earning less than 300% of the federal poverty level, which includes roughly 75% of families in Alabama.
This year, students from all grade levels have sought funding, with more than 23,000 approvals reported by the Alabama Department of Revenue (ALDOR), which manages the program.
This represents over $124 million allocated from ESA, supporting the educational choices of Alabama families and students.
Families receiving ESA funding will get a welcome email from ClassWallet, the administrative partner for Aldor, along with guidance on how to use their funds.
The email will also provide details on joining upcoming webinars aimed at offering further assistance and information for participating students and families.
