Eighth annual ‘Douglas Days’ held this weekend with special guests

Douglas, Arizona — Stuart Douglas may be 80 years old, but that hasn’t stopped him from planning a family reunion in Douglas, Arizona, a town close to his heart.

He and 29 other family members traveled to the border town to attend Douglas Days events tonight and Saturday. Sandy Douglas said it was his first time visiting the area, as did most of the people he was with.

“I think it’s the city’s celebration that we can be a part of,” Sandy Douglas said. “I am excited to be here because it brings us together and gives us the opportunity to get to know this exciting city.”

Families came from all over the country and England for the reunion and Douglas Day.

Douglas Days is an annual event held by the City of Douglas to celebrate its incorporation and history. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the city’s namesake, James Douglas.

The opening ceremony will take place tonight, but most of the activities will be tomorrow. The full schedule of events is Douglas City Facebook page.

Sandy Douglas said she is very much looking forward to attending the parade with her family and meeting the locals.
