Elderly Woman Driving Pick-Up Truck Runs Over Another Woman’s Head On Florida Beach, Police Say

Police say the 71-year-old Florida beach fan was injured Wednesday after a pittering truck in which an 84-year-old woman hit her on the head.

The 71-year-old New Yorker was reclining in the beach chair behind the vehicle as the “right rear tire of the truck” ran through his head, the Volsia Sheriff’s Office (VSO) said in a statement. According to the VSO, the 84-year-old Floridian driving the pickup had left the parking lot and had no idea the 71-year-old reclining in the chair. The elderly driver was warned of the incident by a witness and remained on the scene after working with authorities, the statement read. Authorities said she was intact during the incident.

“The patient was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center with a head injury deemed life-threatening and she was in stable condition,” the VSO said. The Sheriff’s Office added that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The footage showed law enforcement on the scene. “That’s why she was driving — she was pulling out, the cameraman said.

“Was she here?” the lieutenant asked, gestured towards the area.

“Yeah, this is her car. She was coming out like this,” the photographer said.

An older woman, who appears to be the driver, told authorities that she did not meet the victim there. “I was there when they stopped me,” she added.

The legal speed limit for driving at Volusia County Beach is 10 mph. According to Go to the Daytona Beach News Journal. The incident is the latest on the local beach. Volusia County Beach Safety Sgt. Officials said Arthur Gendlow attacked two 18-year-old women on a truck on the anniversary. According to a county memo, a safety officer who handed over his resignation letter prior to the incident violated county policies and failed to walk around his truck to observe him before driving. It violated the county’s policies.
