Elon Musk’s Tesla Finishes First ‘Cybertruck’ Years Behind Schedule

Elon Musk’s Tesla announced on Saturday that its new electric car, the Cybertruck, left the assembly line for the first time, nearly two years behind schedule.

“First Cybertruck built in Giga Texas!” the company tweeted, along with a photo of the truck and construction workers.

Musk said in April that the track is expected to be completed between July and September, according to the Associated Press. The truck’s production plan stalled when a metal ball hit a window that was thought to be unbreakable and broke it.

Several other companies, including Ford and Rivian Automotive, are joining Tesla in the electric truck market, The Associated Press reports.

“It takes time to get the production line up and running,” Musk said ahead of the Cybertruck’s production, according to the Associated Press. “And this is really a very radical product. It’s not built like other cars. So let’s see.”

In May, Mr. Musk came under intense scrutiny from Republican presidential candidates and others for his company’s partnership with China. Musk recently met with Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang in Beijing to discuss expanding into China.
