Charges Against Boston City Employee in Shooting Incident
Several Boston city employees are facing criminal charges following their alleged involvement in a fatal shooting that occurred in April, marking the fourth arrest related to workers under Mayor Michelle Wu, according to reports from the Boston Herald.
Jacqueline Cherisme, who works for the Boston Public Health Commission, is accused of contributing to the death of a bystander during a drive-by shooting on April 19. Arrested in June, Cherisme has been charged with accessory after the fact.
Reports suggest that while Cherisme was a passenger in a vehicle, co-accused Charles Dixon allegedly fired shots at individuals, resulting in one fatality. Prosecutors claim that Cherisme misled police by providing false information shortly after the incident.
“The Boston Public Health Commission is aware of the pending criminal charges against the employee, who is currently on unpaid administrative leave,” a spokesperson told the Boston Herald. “We adhere to collective bargaining agreements and follow the necessary management process prior to taking further action.”
This incident ties into a broader issue within Wu’s administration, where multiple city employees have been arrested in recent months.
Meanwhile, Daunasia Yancey, the city’s deputy director of LGBTQIA2S+ Advancement, remains in her position despite being arrested and charged with assault and battery several months ago. Yancey reportedly got into a physical altercation during a dispute with her girlfriend’s ex-wife.
Additionally, two other city officials, Marwa Khudaynazar and Chulan Huang, were arrested in May for domestic violence-related charges. Both were placed on unpaid leave and subsequently dismissed by the city.
As of now, neither the Boston Public Health Commission nor Mayor Wu’s office has commented on the situation. It remains to be seen how these ongoing legal issues will affect the administration moving forward.
