TUCSON—Elections are less than a year away, but the race to Congress has begun.
Democrat Kristen Engel, who lost to Republican Juan Ciscomani for Arizona’s Sixth District in 2022, announced Wednesday that she will run for president again.
“Juan Ciscomani and Republicans in Congress have their priorities wrong. We are ignoring the plea,” Engel said in her announcement video.
The Ciscomani campaign responded quickly to Engel’s announcement with the following press release: She will make our community less safe” and “Engel is supported by some of her party’s most extreme forces, from Raul Grijalva to Nancy Pelosi”.
The Ciscomani campaign also announced last week that it has raised over $1 million for next year’s race in the first quarter of this year.
In one of the tightest congressional elections in the state, Ciscomani beat Engel by 5,232 votes in 2022, trailing only 3,195 votes in the constituency between Republican incumbent David Schweikert and Democrat Jevin Hodge. It was rank. 1 race.
