ESPN’s “First Take” Host Molly Qerim Departs
Molly Qerim, the host of ESPN’s “First Take,” has announced her departure from the network. In a heartfelt message shared on her Instagram Stories, she reflected on her time with the show. “After much reflection, I decided it was time to close this incredible chapter,” she wrote. “Hosting this show has been one of the greatest honors of my career. Each morning, I had the privilege of sharing a desk with some of the most passionate and humorous voices in sports.”
Although earlier reports suggested that Qerim was under contract until the end of 2025, her decision to leave appears to be final. This was echoed by ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, who shared his feelings during Tuesday’s show. “We miss her,” he stated. “I miss spending weekday mornings by my side.”
According to a Monday report from Sports Business Journal, Qerim declined an extension offered by ESPN. Following her announcement on social media, it seems “First Take” will move forward without her. The show has long been considered ESPN’s flagship morning program.
ESPN’s president of content, Burke Magnus, acknowledged Qerim’s contributions in an official statement. “Molly has been an integral part of ESPN since 2006 and has been a key factor in the success of ‘First Take’ over the past ten years. She has elevated the show with her calmness and professionalism, and has consistently supported her teammates with kindness. We respect her decision and wish her the best in the future.”
In a tweet, Stephen A. Smith also highlighted Qerim’s significant role in the show’s success, praising her dignity, class, and kindness.
Honestly, this departure is a bit surprising.
