Hakeem Jeffries Celebrates Trump’s Hostage Release Agreement
On Thursday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries praised President Donald Trump’s recent announcement regarding the agreement between Israel and Hamas to release all hostages.
This agreement, announced by Trump on Wednesday, marks the initial phase of his administration’s peace initiative, which also includes plans for the withdrawal of Israeli troops to designated areas. Jeffries shared with CNN News Central that he views the agreement as “a very positive first step” toward resolving the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas and establishing a lasting peace.
“This is a positive development. We’re all hopeful that it can be finalized so the hostages can go home to their families in just a few days,” Jeffries said. “Moreover, there’s the opportunity to expedite humanitarian aid to Gaza to address the suffering endured by Palestinian civilians over the last couple of years, paving the way not only for a ceasefire but also for a fair and enduring peace between Israelis and Palestinians.”
Trump expressed his thoughts on the agreement via Truth Social, describing it as a “historic and unprecedented event.” He remarked on the cooperation of Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey in bringing about this agreement.
“Every party will be treated fairly! This is a significant day for the Arab and Muslim community, for Israel, its neighbors, and the United States. I want to extend my gratitude to the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for their roles in this landmark event,” he stated.
Before this announcement, Secretary of State Marco Rubio handed Trump a note during a White House event, urging him to approve the Truth Social post immediately to be the first to announce the deal.
The draft plan from the White House also proposes that Hamas cede control of Gaza to an “international stabilization force,” which would be led by Trump and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, with assistance from Palestinian experts.
