thursday night book club thursday night book club July 13 — Flagstaff Coconino County Public Library, 300 W. Aspen Ave., Flagstaff. 928-213-2331. From 6:00 to 7:00 pm, this month we read Louise Erdrich’s The Sentence. Copies are available at the downtown information desk. This sentence asks what we owe the living, the dead, the reader, and the book. A small independent bookstore in Minneapolis suffered from the store’s most annoying customer from November 2019 to November 2020. Flora died on All Souls Day, but she refused to leave the store. After years of imprisonment, Tookie, who survived by reading books “with murderous attention” and got a job selling books, unraveled the mystery of this haunting as well as found himself in Minneapolis during a year of grief. We must try to understand everything that happened. Surprise, isolation, and ferocious calculation. We will meet in person in the Downtown Library Community Room as well as on Zoom. https://go.evvnt.com/1791729-0.
