Thursday Night Jazz with Flag Community Band June 29 — Heritage Square in Flagstaff. The Thursday Night Jazz Series from 5-7pm is a free weekly event from June to September. Climate Resilience Work Session: Community Garden June 29 — Bonito Community Garden, 527 W. Elm Ave., Flagstaff. 928-213-2331. The resilience work session from 5:30-7:00 pm is a hands-on workshop to develop skills related to climate resilience for individuals and communities. This month, we meet locally at the Bonito Community Gardens (527 W. Elm Ave.) to learn more about local pollinators, Flagstaff’s network of community gardens, and how community gardens are helping Flagstaff grow climate resilience. Learn about what is involved in Seniors, youth, families, amateurs, professionals, people of all ages, experiences and levels of climate knowledge are welcome. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water! During the months when we are not attending resilience work sessions, we will be having climate conversations in the library. Science Saturday is an event held on the first Saturday of every month from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. Focusing on a different theme each month, each event offers fun, educational and hands-on activities. 2023 Geological Rock Tour – July 1 July 1 — Mountain Sports Flagstaff, 24 N. San Francisco St., Flagstaff. 928-779-1745. 1pm to 2pm, free. With generous funding from Mountain Sports Flagstaff and 1% for the Planet, the Willow Bend Center for Environmental Education offers guided downtown geological tours. The 45-minute walking tour is based on local Flagstaff author Marie Jackson’s The Stone of His Landmarks book. It’s a special and unique opportunity for our community to explore downtown like never before. This tour explains the ancient history of the stones used to build downtown’s iconic buildings, including Moenkopi sandstone, pumice dacite, Kaibab limestone, and Malapai basalt. In addition, the tour focuses on the evolution of architectural styles, discusses changing preferences for certain types of rock, and outlines historical events. Participants will look for fossils in the walls of the Ice House, find a stone called “Arizona Red,” visit the “Grand Canyon” formations at Heritage Square, and admire beautiful stone etchings. Tours meet outside Mountain Sports Flagstaff 24 N. San Francisco at 1:00 PM (please arrive a few minutes early for sign-in). The tour is free and limited to 20 participants. Square’s Movie: Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle July 1 — Heritage Square in Flagstaff. 4pm to 8pm. This year’s movie season begins on his May 27th, runs through Labor Day weekend, and ends on September 2nd. Every Saturday from 4pm, Heritage Square hosts activities, crafts and live entertainment, followed by an all-ages movie that begins after sunset. Movie snacks are also available for purchase. Or, stop by one of the local restaurants downtown for takeout while you watch the movie.
