Ex-CNN Analyst Gives 3 Reasons Why He Thinks Democrats ‘Caved’ On Gov’t Shutdown

Former CNN analyst Chris Sillitza said in a video posted Friday he pledged and pledged to surrender and support the Republican spending bill for three strategic reasons.

Senator Chuck Schumer, Senator of New York, who is the leader of the Senate minority, announced in a speech on the Senator’s floor on Thursday that he would support a GOP-backed government funding bill until September 30th, at the end of the fiscal year. Cillizza said that one of the reasons Schumer realized that his caucus was not united behind the shutdown was that Schumer realized. “Why Democrats gave: They didn’t have a vote. Schumer is not going to be the one who’s going to say, ‘What do you know, I’m going to be for this resolution,'” Cillizza said. “Twenty-four hours ago, he came out and he said he disagreed with it and that the Republicans had no votes. Well, they got the votes.”

“I don’t think a lot of swing national Democrats, Democrats didn’t want to shut down the government in 2026. Schumer chases the flock on that point. He’s the leader and his job is to read the temperature in the room,” continued Cillizza.

While some Democrats argued in support of Republicans denying a vote to overcome the filibuster of the spending bill, Schumer argued that the fight against President Donald Trump would be a “costly distraction” during his speech on the Senate floor. Cillizza appeared to agree with the argument.

“The second: They want to fight on the ground. “So, the story before this week, and even to this day, stock markets are down, Trump’s tariffs are causing uncertainty, Elon Musk. All of these are bad stories for Democrats, um, Republicans are sorry to me. All of these are stories that drive a negative storyline for Republicans.”

Democrats criticize the use of tariffs as a foreign policy strategy to not only reduce illegal immigration, but also to fix what they believe is. Cillizza also said Democrats are afraid of what the government’s Department of Efficiency (DOGE) would do if the agency was shut down during the closure. (Related: Dismissed government workers believe Trump administrators cannot handle basic functions without “experts” like theirs.)

“Third reason… I think Democrats were wary of shutting down the government and giving more empowerment to Donald Trump and Elon Musk. “This is what’s more important to Musk and Trump, who are clearly so focused on reducing the federal workforce, saying, “How important is government? You guys were willing to close it.”
