Ex-northern Arizona firefighter sentenced to 5 years for arson

Ashfork, Arizona (Az Family) – A former firefighter who purposely ignited several fires in northern Arizona has learned how long he spends in prison.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said former ashes fork firefighter Carson Nutter has been sentenced to five years in prison for an arson crime.

In 2023, Yavapay and Coconino County deputies were looking for an arsonist who would be responsible for four structural fires and four wildfires. The fire was set to a Mobile gas station At Ash Fork, two times and two others at Ash Fork’s county-owned cemetery.

In Coconino County, two abandoned homes were burned down.

Investigators began to suspect that Nutter was behind the crime because of a “deceitful and misleading statement.” Nutter later confessed that he set up at least seven of the eight fires, claiming that they attributed to boredom and retaliation against his previous employer. He also claimed that he set fire to a house that was abandoned because it was “ugly.”

“It reminded me of the extensive efforts of YCSO and Coconino County Sheriff’s deputies and detectives, and the Ash Fork community has made tireless efforts to put an end to the fires at the edge,” the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook.
