Ex-owner of a pool construction business sentenced to 20 years for theft and forgery

Former Pool Contractor Sentenced to 20 Years for Fraud

Attorney General Steve Marshall announced that a former pool contractor has received a 20-year prison sentence for defrauding a client of over $600,000.

Gregory Kirk, from Muscle Shoals, pleaded guilty to charges involving several property crimes, according to a statement from Marshall. Madison County Circuit Judge Ruth Anne Hall imposed the sentence in line with a judicial agreement with the state.

Kirk had previously operated as a pool contractor in Madison County, where he allegedly absconded with payments made by clients. He was accused of forgery related to contractor licenses, using counterfeit building permits, and fraudulently utilizing client credit cards.

The charges against him included 14 counts of first-degree theft, second-degree theft, possession of forged items, forgery, and the fraudulent use of credit or debit cards.

“Many consumers trusted Kirk with significant amounts of money, all in hopes of having their dream pool built. Instead, they ended up heartbroken,” Marshall stated. “He violated their trust, deceived them, and stole their hard-earned money.”

This case sends a strong message, Marshall added. Those who take advantage of hardworking families and undermine their trust will face consequences. “Our office is dedicated to protecting consumers from fraud and deception.”

Under the agreement with the state, Kirk accepted various prison terms, including five years for second-degree theft, possession of forged items, and forgery.

The Attorney General’s Consumer Interest Division handled the case, and Marshall expressed gratitude for the support from the Huntsville Police Department, Madison Police Department, and the Madison County District Attorney’s Office.
