A former Tucson Middle School teacher was sentenced Tuesday to two and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to making death threats against Arizona Senator Wendy Rogers.
Donald Glenn Brown pleaded guilty to attempted terrorism threats in April and was sentenced Tuesday in Navajo County Superior Court.
Brown is suspected of sending threatening emails to a Show Low store from a fake account on July 4, 2019, according to Arizona reports.
Rogers, a far-right Republican who took office in January 2021 and represents Arizona’s 7th congressional district, which includes Flagstaff, was on Show Low for the Independence Day parade at the time.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety report, Brown shot Rogers dead and then threatened to shoot the store.
The Republic reported that in a statement to the court included in the attendance report, Brown wrote that he was “completely and deeply ashamed” of his conduct and did not intend to act on it.
Brown, a former music teacher, resigned from the Tucson Unified School District after being arrested and charged with the incident.
Mr. Rogers and the shop owners asked the judge to impose Mr. Brown a prison sentence instead of a suspended sentence.
