YUMA, AZ (KYMA, KECY-TV) – Extremely hot temperatures are arriving this weekend.
An excessive heat warning is in effect for the southwestern desert from Saturday morning through Monday evening.
Winds will increase this weekend through the afternoon and evening, with gusts of up to 20 mph possible.
Due to the heat and breezy weather, the Imperial County APCD has issued an Air Quality Warning for the Imperial Valley from 8am to 8pm Saturday due to high levels of ozone (smog).

A strong anticyclonic ridge will continue to intensify over the weekend, bringing temperatures in the region 10-20°C warmer than normal.

This weekend will be sunny, dry and hot.
Be sure to take precautions against the heat by drinking plenty of water, staying in cool, air-conditioned buildings, spending less time outdoors, and supervising older children and pets.

Humidity is expected to rise by early next week, moderately reducing the risk of heatstroke.
The high mountains of southern and eastern Arizona are less likely to return to monsoonal thunderstorms by Monday afternoon.
