Excessive heat will stick around through the week

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY-TV) – Dangerous heat remains a concern this week, with an excessive heat warning in effect for the entire southwestern desert through 8pm Saturday.

Stay in cool, air-conditioned buildings, drink plenty of water, limit sun exposure, and be sure to monitor the elderly, children, and pets.

Winds are likely to pick up tonight, reaching speeds of up to 35 mph in Imperial County, but will begin to ease after midnight.

Persistent high pressure continues to bring in heat, and southerly currents bring in excess moisture.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected in parts of Arizona, but at higher elevations, throughout the rest of the business week.

Highs and lows tend to approach daily record temperatures throughout the week.

Thunderstorms are expected to increase in parts of Arizona over the weekend, with about a 20% to 30% chance of rain in Yuma on Sunday and Monday.
