EXCLUSIVE: Harris Campaign Attempts To Mask Its Own Retreat With Outright Lie About Debates

The Trump campaign said Friday that Kamala Harris' campaign was lying when it claimed the previous day that the two had reached a debate agreement.

Following former President Donald Trump's proposal for three presidential debates, Harris' campaign released a statement on Thursday, claiming that Trump had “accepted the proposal for three debates, two presidential debates and one vice presidential debate.” Caroline Leavitt, national spokesperson for the Trump campaign, told The Daily Caller that the statement was false and that former President Trump plans to take to the debate stage for his three proposed debates, in addition to the two vice presidential debates. “To be clear, President Trump will appear in three debates with Fox News, ABC and NBC/Telemundo. Similarly, Senator Vance will appear in two debates with Tim Waltz: on CNN on September 18th and CBS on October 1st. If Harris and Waltz do not appear, there will be an empty podium in their place, showing the American people how weak they are,” Leavitt continued.

In a statement Thursday, Harris' campaign wrote that if Trump attends the Sept. 10 debate, Americans “will have one more opportunity to see the Vice President and Donald Trump on the debate stage in October.” Leavitt told Caller that despite the Harris campaign's statement, the idea of holding an October debate has not been discussed.

“There have been no suggestions from the networks about the October debate, just unnecessary suggestions,” Leavitt told the Caller.

“President Trump has committed to attending three debates. Kamala should attend the same three debates. We both received the exact same debate invitations from all three networks,” she added.

The Harris campaign began its statement by claiming that “the debate about the debate is over.” Leavitt said that couldn't be further from the truth.

“Harris' advisers don't believe she has the ability or skill to debate President Trump, so they're waiting to see how she performs in the September debate and then commit to the October debate. It's not going to work that way,” Leavitt told Caller.

“Kamala Harris is a coward. She refuses to do press conferences, refuses sit-down interviews and refuses to accept the three debate invitations that President Trump agreed to. Harris speaks off-script because she cannot defend her dangerously liberal record and four failed years in the White House,” Leavitt said.
