Since word of Rubio’s appointment spread, multiple political figures have expressed their support for President Trump. Alabama Republican Sen. Katie Britt was one of the first; Axios reportsfollowed by Republican Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna.
Education has become a key issue for conservatives since the coronavirus pandemic brought classrooms into kitchens and living rooms. The Parental Choice Movement, led by grassroots organizations like Moms for Liberty and Parents Defending Education, is a conservative movement against diversity, equity and inclusion lessons, sexually explicit content in schools, and age-inappropriate gender ideology lessons. This triggered a great fight. (Related: Safe spaces, exam cancellations, therapy ducks: How universities are helping students cope with Kamala’s loss)
In 2021, the parental rights movement led Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, a Republican, to withdraw his support from incumbent Terry McAuliffe. During the race, Mr. McAuliffe put himself at the center of the education debate, arguing that parents should not be involved in classroom decisions.
“We’re not going to allow parents to come into schools and actually pull out books and make their own decisions. I don’t think parents should be dictating to schools what to teach,” McAuliffe said in 2021. Ta.
Youngkin used a message of opposition, focusing his campaign on education, cultural issues, and parental choice, which helped elevate him above McAuliffe.
Similarly, the Biden administration leaves conservatives with clear priorities for the second Trump administration and for winning House and Senate majorities, from acquiring Title IX to reducing left-wing bias through academic and teacher training. Ta.
