EXCLUSIVE: New National Association Launched To Compete With American Library Association

  • A new national organization has been formed to replace the American Library Association, according to Monday’s press release obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

  • “The World Library Association wants to find some kind of balance against this large body that has been promoting inappropriate books for decades,” Dan Kleinman, a self-professed “library keeper” and founder of the World Library Association, told DCNF.

A new national organization, which aims to replace the American Library Association (ALA), was launched Monday, according to a press release obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Kleinman told DCNF that the World Library Association, open to public and school libraries, will provide financial support and assistance to parents involved in legal battles over sexually explicit content within public and school libraries. “The World Library Association could collect donations from major donors in other countries because if someone did not do something to give parents and communities some help, the national impact of the harm done to children by this inappropriate material would be enormous,” Kleinman told DCNF. “The World Library Association wants to find some kind of balance against this big body that has been promoting inappropriate books for decades.”

Kleinman told DCNF that the World Library Association aims to provide exemplary policies, training and support to public and school libraries based on “political neutrality” and “common sense”.

“School policy now recommends that basically anything goes and that it’s literally age discrimination to keep kids away from all materials,” Kleinman told the DCNF. “The World Library Association’s new policy guidance will encourage schools to follow laws and precedents such as the Board of Education v. Pico (1982 U.S. Supreme Court case), which will allow schools to remove educationally inappropriate and prevalent vulgar material and remove it immediately. So schools can now provide books for children that comply with common sense, legal and community standards, rather than what is happening in the news today.”

The ALA has more than 50,000 members, most of whom are public librarians, according to the organization’s website. ALA members are access Participation in professional development courses and access to “top-notch resources” [and] tool. “

The ALA has recently come under fire after a resurfaced tweet by its president calling himself a “Marxist lesbian”. On July 11, the Montana State Libraries (MSL) Board voted to withdraw from the ALA because of the president’s tweets, becoming the first state to do so.

Mississippi Republicans in Idaho have called on the state to cut ties with the ALA, citing concerns about a “Marxist lesbian” president after the MSL vote. Since 2015, Mississippi has donated nearly $70,000 from taxpayer funds to the ALA, press release said.

Solidarity. And my mother is so proud of you for loving you.”

“[The ALA’s] The goal is to normalize and use sexual material as a construct to create and manipulate discord between parents and children, but that strategy is not working,” Sean McBrearty, director of the World Library Association, told DCNF. “The World Library Association will support parents with an unbiased, conservative policy and simply return to the basics of what we all thought libraries were when we were children: regular education.”

In April, the ALA released a list of the most problematic content to celebrate efforts to advocate for pornographic books in schools and to honor “brave authors.” The ALA announced in June that it would spend at least $1 million to take legal action against parents who challenge explicit content in its libraries. according to in the American Library Journal.

The ALA did not immediately respond to DCNF’s request for comment.
