The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) released an ad Tuesday criticizing Democratic Sen. Jon Tester of Montana over his record on illegal immigration.
Tester, who has represented the red state since 2007, is likely to face Trump-backed Republican Tim Sheehy, a former Navy SEAL, in the November general election. NRSC spokeswoman Maggie Abboud said, “In an election year, Jon Tester, a dual-faced president, is making tough statements on the border, but Montanans have no choice but to acknowledge the misery that led to the current crisis.'' “I will remember Mr. Tester's long record of supporting open border policies.” he told the DCNF in a statement. Illegal immigration has surged under the Biden administration, leading the Republican-led House of Representatives to impeach Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on February 13 over his handling of the southern border.
“The big issue here is we need to secure our southern border, and I think the president has supported that,” Tester can be heard saying in the NRSC ad.

The tester seat is considered Cook Political Report's 2024 “Toss Up” race between Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona.
Non-stop field/investigation USA poll An announcement released Thursday found that Sen. Sheehy, who was recruited by the NRSC, leads the general election matchup 49% to 40%. The poll also found that Tester won by a similar margin over Republican Rep. Matt Rosendale, who briefly ran for the seat.
Mr. Rosendale began his long-awaited Senate campaign on February 9, but withdrew from the race on Thursday after Mr. Trump endorsed Mr. Sheehy in the primary.
Tester's camp did not immediately respond to DCNF's request for comment.
