EXCLUSIVE: Ted Cruz presses tax-funded org that wiped recordings encouraging DEI hiring practices

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, on Thursday told the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) that board members had been removed from publicly accessible websites for hours following an earlier investigation into diversity mandates. I have sent a letter requesting details about the audio of the meeting.

The Daily Caller first obtained a copy of the letter, which was first obtained by Cruz about CPB's practice of pressuring federally funded stations to engage in race-conscious hiring and circumventing anti-discrimination laws. This comes after the Daily Caller News Foundation reported in December that it exposed CPB's efforts to CPB has since removed hours of board meeting audio from its publicly accessible website. Mr. Cruz is a senior member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.

In his latest letter, Mr. Cruz asks why the CPB (created by Congress, funded by taxpayers, and overseen by a director appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate) has public access to the same director's recordings. “The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) claims to have a “firm commitment to integrity and transparency.'' Apparently that is not the case. Removal impedes both Congressional oversight and the American public's ability to monitor the CPB's activities. It is not clear which is worse, the cover-up or the crime, in this case.”

“Simply put, CPB’s erasure of these recordings appears to be a reckless attempt to avoid public scrutiny and protect the material from Congressional oversight. , and claims to be dedicated to “reliable broadcasting.”[ing]Transparency and public trust in the use of [its] funds. And we advocate for transparency for local stations that rely on CPB for CSG funding,” Cruz continued.

In his letter, Cruz asks:

  • Why has CPB removed all audio files of public portions of board meetings from SoundCloud and its website starting in October 2022?
  • Why did CPB suppress recordings from before October 2022?
  • Who made the decision to remove audio files from CPB's public board meetings or make them inaccessible online?
  • Who else was consulted and involved in the decision?
  • While you serve as President and CEO of CPB, will you commit to putting these recordings back online and making them publicly accessible at all past and future meetings?
