Falcons Hire Raheem Morris As Head Coach, Snub Belichick In Shocking Move

In a shocking development, the Atlanta Falcons will hire Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris as their new head coach, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The hire comes as a big surprise, considering there have been reports that the team is in serious talks to bring former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick over.

Still, Morris is familiar with the organization, having served as the Falcons' defensive coordinator in 2020 and as interim head coach after Atlanta fired Dan Quinn in 2020.

He spent the past three seasons as the Rams' defensive coordinator, leading the team to the NFC Championship in 2021 and being at the helm of the league's top defense. (Carolina Panthers hire inexplicably stupid head coach as first-time play-caller: Report)

Former Los Angeles Ram and All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey confirmed the hire, tweeting, “The Falcons have definitely hired one of the best coaches in the NFL!”

He continued, “I'm not the only one who thinks this way (lol)…just ask any player who has played for Ra!''

The Falcons' move means Belichick's administration has only two potential head coaching spots remaining: the Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Commanders. Seattle has been linked to Quinn, the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator, recently, but that doesn't seem as likely as Washington.

Washington's idea makes a lot of sense to Belichick. He grew up in the area and attended high school in nearby Annapolis, Maryland. The organization is in need of stable talent after a recent tumultuous ownership change. They brought in a new team president who could stand in the way of a team completely dominated by Belichick, but if both teams can learn how to coexist, it would be a move to break Washington out of its long spell of mediocrity. Maybe.
