St. George — 24-year-old Braonine McGinnis was last seen more than five months ago, on December 21, 2023, in the Glen Burnie area of Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
Family friend Lucas Frazier is urging Southern Utah residents to be vigilant after the missing man's car was later found more than 2,000 miles away in northern Arizona.
According to a press release issued by the Coconino County Sheriff's Office on January 23, the vehicle McGinnis was driving was found on January 3 near State Route 89A in Page, Arizona. Detectives said McGinnis' whereabouts are unknown at this time.
According to the Maryland Center for Missing and Unidentified Persons, McGinnis is described as 5-foot-11, weighing 185 pounds, with long hair and a full beard, and was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and Vans sneakers. Frazier said McGinnis's cell phone stopped ringing the night he went missing. And his bank account was debited.
“His mobile phones were either switched off or out of battery and not in use,” Mr Fraser said. “A few hours before he left he used an ATM to withdraw $200 from his bank account. There has been no activity on his bank or credit cards since then.”
An Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper spotted a Hyundai Accent sedan driven by McGinnis near milepost 570 on State Highway 89 between House Rock Road and Jacob Lake Inn.
“His vehicle did not have license plates when it was discovered and also had approximately 15 miles of gas left in the vehicle,” he said. “He may have a red Galaxy cell phone with a black Otterbox, his license plate, Maryland license plate 9CY0074, or a black and yellow jacket.”
Frazier said the family hopes people who enjoy recreation in the area will be on the lookout for things that aren't normally found in nature. If anyone spots McGinnis, Frazier said his name is pronounced “Brennan.”
“It's possible that he may have dropped or discarded these items,” he said, “and we would appreciate everyone keeping an eye out for them as they may provide valuable information as to his current or past whereabouts.”
Fraser said sheriff's office search and rescue teams conducted searches of the surrounding area but had not found any clues as of June 7, when he last spoke with detectives.
Anyone with information regarding McGinnis' whereabouts is asked to contact the Coconino County Sheriff's Office at 928-774-4523 or the Anne Arundel County Police Department at 410-222-8610.
