Three Points (KVOA) – The family of a man shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent traveled to Tucson to pay their respects.
The shooting occurred two weeks ago near Sassave, Arizona.
They spoke EXCLUSIVELY with News 4 Tucson en route to setting up a cross where Noe Mejia was killed.
His widow, Vanessa, who asked not to use his last name, said, “Taking him away is taking my life away.” She pointed to her three-month-old baby girl.
Vanessa, who is holding the baby, told News4Tucson that they didn’t have much, but they did have each other.
Not only did she lose her husband and her baby lost her father, she said, “Father lost him, cousin lost. Nephew gone. Uncle gone, brother gone. We didn’t just take one person away from us.”
She said Noe came to Tucson to visit family.
But on March 14, the Pima County Sheriff’s Homicide Division was summoned to a remote location off Route 286.
Investigators said border guards were chasing a vehicle carrying five illegal immigrants.
As a result, the agents used lethal force.
The family is devastated.
His sister-in-law asked that we not identify her. Having a teenage son in need and a newborn baby girl will never know how he was or who he was.
His son Noe Jr. also misses his father dearly.
his great regret. “I never told him I love you. I want to tell him I love you.”
Noe Jr.’s mother is also from California. “It was all about my son and I wanted to co-parent him so he could go to college and achieve his goals,” she said.
Now she has to do this without her son’s father. Vanessa has to raise her daughter without Noe.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office is the primary agency investigating ongoing shootings.
They are backed by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security.
They submit their findings to the county attorney.
