Fani Willis’ Partner Offers Novel Defense: She’s An ‘Independent, Strong Woman’ Who Pays Her Own Way

Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade testified during Thursday's hearing that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis was determined to pay her fair share while she was out.

Wade's testimony comes during a hearing on whether Willis should be disbarred over allegations of financial gain from appointing him to handle the election interference case against former President Donald Trump. I was disappointed. Merchant Law Firm, which represents President Trump's co-defendant Michael Roman, is accused of denying certain records under the Georgia Open Records Act, including contracts with attorneys hired to work on the case. The suit was filed against Willis' office in January. (Related article: Judge says Fani Willis 'likely' to be disqualified given evidence presented by Trump co-defendants)

Wade characterized Willis as someone who refuses to take benefits and pays for “dinner” outings.

“I manage to make ends meet…I never said, 'I bought you dinner.' Dinner is $25, so give me $25.” Spending time with Willis If you are someone you know that she is a very independent and proud woman. Therefore, she will insist on carrying her own weight. In fact, it was a point of contention between the two of us. She’s going to pay for it herself,” Wade asserted.

Willis recently acknowledged having a personal relationship with Wade, but denied any improper financial advantage.

Robin Yearty, a close friend of Willis who previously worked in the district attorney's office, said during the hearing that Willis and Wade's relationship began soon after they met at a conference for district court judges in 2019. I testified. Mr. Ierty's testimony contradicts how the two men had presented their case. Court filings say the relationship began after Wade's contract began in 2022.

“Sometimes I would pay for dinner. She would pay for dinner. That way we would have a balance,” he added. “She was so emphatic and adamant about this independent, strong woman that she paid for it herself.”
