PHOENIX — The driver of a gray F-250 truck that struck and killed a pedestrian remains at large, according to a Sunday statement from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO).
Before Saturday's accident, Lisa Mancuso, 43, was jogging near Cloud Road and 7th Avenue in New River around 10 a.m., officials said.
The driver hit her and fled the scene driving eastbound on Cloud Road, MCSO said.
However, the driver later returned to the scene, at which point witnesses attempted to stop the truck, MCSO said.
The driver allegedly made a U-turn and fled the scene heading east on Cloud Road.
“We located the vehicle yesterday,” said Sgt.Joaquín Enriquez said KTAR News 92.3 FM. “Detectives are working to identify the driver of the vehicle.”
Enriquez said in a social media update that a witness who described the vehicle to detectives helped authorities find the vehicle.
UPDATE: A witness was able to provide MCSO detectives with a description of the suspicious vehicle, which eventually led investigators to the vehicle. “The details of the collision are unclear as detectives continue to pursue investigative leads to identify the driver of the vehicle,” Enriquez said. “It is unknown at this time whether speed, alcohol or distraction were factors that led to the collision.”
