Father Jumps Into Ocean From Cruise Ship to Rescue Daughter Who Fell Overboard

Rescue on Disney Dream Cruise Ship

Two individuals were rescued from the waters during a Disney Dream cruise on Sunday as the ship returned to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, following a four-night journey to the Bahamas.

A witness recounted hearing a “man overboard” announcement and described how a little girl fell into the water and her father jumped in after her. He expressed admiration for the quick response of the crew, thanking God that both were safe.

Video footage from ABC 7 displayed the rescue team approaching and pulling the two individuals from the water.

A Facebook group dedicated to Disney Dream Cruises reported that the girl had fallen from the fourth deck and that her father had dived in to help her. Additional reports suggested they were in the water for about twenty minutes. A witness noted the emotional moment when the girl’s mother cried tears of happiness upon their rescue, having prayed for their safety.

One man described the ordeal as nerve-wracking, admitting that as a father himself, he would have acted similarly. Disney Cruise Line later issued a statement commending the crew for their prompt actions, affirming their commitment to guest safety and highlighting the effectiveness of their safety protocols.

As the Disney Dream returned to Port Everglades, it’s worth noting that reports from Cruise Line International Association indicated an average of 19 overboard incidents each year between 2009 and 2019, with 48 successful rescues during that time frame.

The Disney Dream, which began operation in 2011, has a passenger capacity of up to 4,000 people.
