His draft includes information obtained as a special FBI agent in connection with the FBI investigation into the “Foreign Weapons of Mass Destruction (“WMD”) program.”
Buma is said to have emailed to a personal colleague in November who helped negotiate a deal with the publishing company.
He claimed that he “gives permission” to the recipients “to share information that was subject to restrictions on dissemination and that he was aware of his abilities as a special FBI agent,” the document alleges. The Bureau’s Reservations Office confirmed in December 2023 and June 2024 that the defendant did not reach out to secure a review of his book, the submission said.
According to the submission, the American media company ultimately published an article containing sensitive information.
“In the fall of 2023, the US media entity published an article containing sensitive information related to an associate degree in a foreign government employee, and Buma knew he had an obligation to protect him,” the document alleges.
